Altenergymag.com was founded in 2002 by practicing futurist Bob Hetherington. In 1996, Bob launched one of the first online-only magazines with the home automation site Hometoys.com.

He retired in 2018, and the business was continued by his youngest son, Brandon. Brandon still manages two online magazines: Roboticstomorrow and Manufacturingtomorrow.

Altenergymag.com is now in the hands of his oldest son, Lucas.
