Fisher Auto Parts goes solar, helping Virginia get on the renewable energy map.

Fisher Auto Parts, one of the largest regional auto parts distribution and marketing organizations in North America, announced today that the installation of a 63.7 kW photovoltaic solar energy system has been completed at their Staunton, VA headquarters.

STAUNTON, VA, March 9, 2017 - Fisher Auto Parts, one of the largest regional auto parts distribution and marketing organizations in North America, announced today that the installation of a 63.7 kW photovoltaic solar energy system has been completed at their Staunton, VA headquarters. The goal of the system is to enable the building to produce 82% of its electricity from the sun, making it one of the first companies in the area to install a system of this capacity.

Fisher Auto Parts worked with Charlottesville, VA-based Sun Tribe Solar, a leader in the development, engineering, and installation of large-scale solar photovoltaic systems, to bring their vision of a sustainable workplace to life. The system features high efficiency monocrystalline solar panels with DC optimizers and a web based monitoring portal that makes it easy for all Fisher employees to see how much sunlight their roof has converted to electricity.

"At Fisher, we are proud to be part of the solar movement that is taking off in Virginia," said Joe Vaughn, CFO at Fisher Auto Parts. "Installing this system is not only a good decision for the environment, but it allows our business to lower operation costs. This ultimately allows us to invest more in customer service and employee programs. Everybody wins."

"We are honored to work with Fisher Auto Parts on this project and are excited to have another Virginia company joining the renewable energy family," said Taylor Brown, Co-Founder of Sun Tribe Solar. "With the price of solar technology at an all-time low, Virginias implementation of renewables is on the rise. With more and more companies like Fisher seeing the economic value, we pride ourselves in being able to provide companies a seamless, turnkey product."

While Virginia ranks 32nd in the country in state installed solar capacity, it is starting to see rapid growth in the solar space. According to SEIA (Solar Energy Industries Association), Virginia is expected to install more than 25 times the solar electric capacity in the next five years as it did in the past five years. Also, the number of Virginians working in the solar industry increased by 65% in 2016, placing it among the fastest job growth states in the country.
