The EcoCAR 3 Advanced Vehicle Technology Competition challenges sixteen North American university teams to redesign a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro to reduce its environmental impact, while maintaining the muscle and performance expected from this iconic American car.

August 11, 2016 - The EcoCAR 3 Advanced Vehicle Technology Competition challenges sixteen North American university teams to redesign a 2016 Chevrolet Camaro to reduce its environmental impact, while maintaining the muscle and performance expected from this iconic American car. Teams are tasked with enhancing the vehicle with cutting-edge energy efficient powertrains that retain high standards for safety and consumer appeal.


The team at the University of Washington was sponsored by Mersen for fabrication of custom high voltage fuse boxes that are part of the team's plug-in hybrid design. The components, jointly designed by UW students and engineers at Mersen, play a critical role in efficiently and safely distributing power throughout the electric powertrain. Thanks to Mersens expertise, the final designs also greatly exceeded expectations for minimizing dimensions and weight, which will have measurable impact on overall vehicle performance and allow greater flexibility in other aspects of the design.
