ANP supports 2nd Annual LatAm HSE in Oil, Gas, Petrochemicals and Energy

Latin America will see a lot of companies involved in the production and processing of oil and gas with the recent discovery of Libra oil field. With a rise in the number of workers and investments for utilizing these reserves it becomes important to focus on the health, safety and environment aspect. A healthy and safe work process is imperative to ensure sustainable operations and environment. 2nd Annual LatAm HSE in Oil, Gas, Petrochemicals and Energy to be held in Rio de Janeiro - Brazil on 18 - 19 November 2013 through various presentations and case studies will focus on topics like management tools used to promote safety, health rehabilitation after accidents, HSE management system & human behavior and waste minimization practices in the petroleum industry.


The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels - ANP, the regulatory body of the Brazilian government for activities related to the exploitation, production and distribution of oil, natural gas and biofuels in Brazil is supporting the summit. As the federal autarchy responsible for implementing the national policy for these sectors, ANP focuses on guaranteeing the fuel supply and protecting consumers' interests. Hugo Manoel Marcato Affonso, Deputy Superintendent of Operational Safety and Environment, Brazil at ANP will be delivering the opening speech on day one of the summit. Through this summit delegates will get an insight on some of these practices from organizations like Ministry of Energy & Minerals, Statoil South America, Shell, Baker Hughes, United States Department of Labor and GE Corporate Environment, Health & Safety - Brazil.

The auction for the Libra oil field is set to be held on 21 October 2013 attracting a lot of national and international companies. The oil field located off the coast of Rio de Janiero is expected to hold 8 - 12 billion barrels of recoverable oil. The oil reserves are believed to be 6000 feet deep below the water. A significant amount of investment and efforts will be required to extract the oil furthering the need to update safety and environment parameters. With work expected to continue on the oil field for the next 30 years, practices implemented and lessons learnt during this will be vital for companies to ensure safe and sustained operations in the future. Networking sessions will see delegates interacting with members of The National Agency of Petroleum, Natural Gas and Biofuels (ANP), The Institute for Safety and Health Management (ISHM) and Belgian maintenance association BEMAS.
