The 19th All-Energy, the UK's largest renewable and low carbon energy exhibition and conference, and the inaugural co-located Dcarbonise, focussing on energy efficiency and low carbon heat and transport are being held on Wednesday 15th and Thursday 16th May at Glasgow's SEC.

The major exhibition features 250 exhibiting companies (including at least 70 new ones exhibiting for the first time this year); and well over 450 conference and seminar speakers. With innovation very much a central theme in both the exhibition and conference there is much to see and many to learn from

Opening morning (15 May) sees a stellar line-up for the opening plenary conference session. The Lord Provost of the City of Glasgow will give the Civic Welcome and be followed by keynote addresses by Scotland's First Minister Rt Hon Nicola Sturgeon MSP; ScottishPower's CEO, Keith Anderson; Chris Stark, CEO of the Committee on Climate Change; Cllr Susan Aitken Leader of Glasgow City Council; and Professor Karen Turner, Director of the Centre for Energy Policy at Strathclyde University and Just Transition Commissioner. All highly relevant, for the event is held against the backdrop of some truly landmark moments from the past 10 days.

Last week saw the Committee on Climate Change publish its Net Zero report on greenhouse gas emissions with a target of 2050 for the UK and 2045 for Scotland; and the UK Parliament, become the first in the world, to vote to declare an ‘environmental and climate emergency'.

Prior to this, Scotland's First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, had declared a ‘climate emergency' at the SNP conference on 28 April; and Wales' Environment Minister Lesley Griffiths did the same on 29 April. By 2 May amendments to Scotland's Climate Change Bill had been lodged to set a legally binding target of net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045 at the latest with Scotland becoming carbon neutral by 2040. And, on Sunday 5 May Edinburgh became the first UK city to join the Open Streets movement, with certain Old Town roads to be closed on the first Sunday of every month

They are just two examples of the outstanding quality of speakers at All-Energy and Dcarbonise.

The second half of the plenary session will be devoted to a discussion on hydrogen's role "Why might the hydrogen economy finally have its day?". From a double decker hydrogen bus from Alexander Dennis in the exhibition hall to over 60 listings in the conference programme, hydrogen is much in evidence this year.

"So too is innovation, running throughout the conference programme like a golden-thread, and highlighted in Innovate UK's Clean Growth Innovation Showcase and the Innovation Exchange run by KTN, and UK Research and Innovation's (UKRI) involvement in many aspects of the conference. In all UKRI and Innovate UK are running eight conference and seminar sessions; and hosting an Investors Breakfast.
