The Zayed Future Energy Prize Calls for Clean Energy Innovators During New York Trip
Annual $4 million prize urges North American individuals, organizations and schools committed to developing renewables and sustainability to make submissions
New York, NY - April 2, 2015 - During the week of April 13, leaders in clean energy from Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates will attend and speak at a series of events in New York, to share their commitment to renewables and to highlight the benefits of the Zayed Future Energy Prize. The trip is part of an effort to engage innovative individuals, organizations and schools in North America that are finding solutions to meet the challenges of climate change, energy security and the environment; and to encourage them to apply for the global annual $4 million prize.
Since its inception in 2008, the Zayed Future Energy Prize has recognized some of the most innovative and visionary leaders in global sustainability. The prize accepts submissions across four of the five categories: Large Corporation, Small and Medium Enterprise (SME), Non-Profit Organization (NPO/NGO), Global High Schools and nominations for the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Winners of last years Zayed Future Energy Prize were Panasonic Corporation (Large Corporation), M-Kopa Solar (SME), Liter of Light (NPO) and Former Vice President Al Gore (Lifetime Achievement). Munro Academy was the winner for the Americas in the Global High Schools category. The winners were recognized during the Abu Dhabi Sustainability Week and were selected from a record number of submissions and nominations from 84 countries.
The $4 million prize is divided and awarded across the following five categories:
· Large Corporation - Revenues exceeding $100 million per year - this is a recognition award (no monetary value).
· Small and Medium Enterprise (SME) - For-profit enterprises with less than $100 million in annual revenues, with a prize of $1.5 million.
· Non-Profit Organization (NPO/NGO) - Non-profit organizations, industry associations, research bodies or international bodies, with a prize of $1.5 million.
· Lifetime Achievement - Individuals must be nominated by third parties - with a prize of $500,000.
· Global High Schools - Schools that teach grades 9 and above, with a total prize of $500,000, $100,000 to be awarded each to five schools from the following regions: the Americas, Europe, Oceania, Africa and Asia.
Over the past seven years, winners of the Zayed Future Energy Prize have touched the lives of over 150 million people - generating 190,000 MWh from renewables, reducing 800 million tons of carbon emissions, providing safe drinking water to 6 million people and introduced 350,000 people to sustainable solutions and management best practices.
