POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe 2015 to focus on accelerating technological and commercial innovation

New approaches, new products, and new skills are necessary to unite the European renewable and general power industry

POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe, the continent's largest gathering of power industry professionals, has unveiled its conference programme for this year's event which will focus on how to secure integrated power for a sustainable energy economy. Taking place in Amsterdam, The Netherlands on 9-11 June 2015, the conference will examine how technological and commercial innovation is accelerating as the European power market reaches the vital nexus between renewable and traditional power.

The conference will also examine the radical and permanent changes that Europe's power sector is currently experiencing. Most notably, the conventional supply chain model of delivering energy from power plants to consumers is shifting to accommodate renewable energy. A significant effort is being made across Europe to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases (GHGs) and decrease the dependence on energy from fossil fuels. Part of this strategy is to develop innovative business models, new technologies, and a new range of services. Driven by financial and operational implications, this approach will replace the traditional way of simply selling kilowatt hours (kWh). Indeed, the pace of change is likely to increase as the new package of climate and energy policies unveiled by the European Commission in early 2014 drives a fresh wave of clean tech investment.
"This is an extremely exciting time for the energy industry," said Nigel Blackaby, conference director, POWER-GEN Europe and Renewable Energy World Europe 2015. "The initiative to cut GHGs by 40 per cent against 1990 levels by 2030, coupled with the global trend of urbanisation, is driving the need for a more sustainable approach to energy management and tighter integration. Over three days, POWER-GEN Europe will feature the leading suppliers, sub-suppliers, and service providers across the entire power generation value chain. The event will showcase strategic thinking and technical innovation, and highlight the increasing opportunity for renewable and general power industry integration."
The POWER-GEN Europe 2015 conference, co-located with Renewable Energy World Europe, will address the new approaches, new products, and new skills that the current changes in the power sector demand. As the industry moves towards a decarbonised energy sector and a green society, the delivery of ambitious energy policies and targets will depend on the successful integration of traditional fossil fuels and the fast-growing renewable generation sectors. This is driving innovation and creative thinking across a wide range of sectors to be included in the conference programme, including the grid, onsite power, e-mobility, waste to energy, nuclear power, and energy storage.
An integral approach is required involving not only the electricity supply but also the energy required for heating, chilling and transportation. Strategic technological solutions at a distributed local level will help find optimum smarter solutions for the current and future needs of the energy sector and consumers. Attendees will be able to gain and exchange key insights and learning from the world's foremost technology providers, and leading-industry professionals. Ultimately, the event will illustrate how technological advances can be implemented to assure a viable transition from a fossil fuel-based energy sector to one with significant renewable energy content that is both commercially secure and sustainable.
