New: Hukseflux VU01 for dependable solar radiation measurement with ventilated pyranometers
Hukseflux introduces the high-quality VU01 ventilation unit, designed for use with the successful SR20 pyranometer and IR20 pyrgeometer. It enables users in need of a ventilated instrument for solar/longwave radiation measurement to attain the highest measurement accuracy, even in extreme climates.
Following the success of SR20 secondary standard pyranometer and IR20 research-grade pyrgeometer, Hukseflux introduces VU01. VU01 is a high-quality ventilation unit for use with pyranometers and pyrgeometers. It provides an airflow over the instrument body and dome and has a 5 W and a 10 W heater on board to heat the air. Based on customer demands, VU01 is the ventilation unit with the smallest footprint and the highest flow rate. It enables users in need of a ventilated instrument to attain the highest measurement accuracy, even in extreme climates.
Hukseflux Thermal Sensors is a leading manufacturer of solar radiation sensors. Hukseflux produces and sells a complete range of high quality instruments for solar radiation measurement, compliant with the latest ISO and WMO standards.
A pyranometer is an instrument for measurement of global solar radiation. SR20, the secondary standard pyranometer, meets and exceeds the standards of the highest category in the ISO 9060 classification system. It measures the solar radiation received by a plane surface, in W/m2, from a 180 degrees field of view angle. SR20's low temperature dependence makes it an ideal candidate for use under very cold and very hot conditions. SR20 is used in high-end PV system performance monitoring, scientific meteorological observations and in extreme climates (tropical/polar).
Longwave radiation is measured with a pyrgeometer. IR20 is a research-grade pyrgeometer suitable for high-accuracy longwave irradiance measurement in meteorological applications. IR20 measures the longwave, or far-infra-red, radiation received by a plane surface, in W/m2, from a 180 degrees field of view angle.
The purpose of a ventilation unit is to improve the dependability of these measurements. Measurement accuracy improves because offsets are reduced. Reliability benefits from prevention of dew and frost formation and quick evaporation and sublimation of water and snow. ISO/TR 9901 "Solar Energy - Field Pyranometers - Recommended practice for use" recommends use of ventilators where high accuracy and reliability are required. VU01 is designed, using high-quality materials, in agreement with the recommendations of ISO/TR 9901 and BSRN.
