Electric Car Charging Network

NRG's Electric Car Charging Network Creating New Jobs in California

When the idea of creating an Electric Car Charging Station Network in California was born, the idea was that embracing Green technologies would serve a greater purpose beyond emissions and fuel efficiency. The idea was that there would be a new generation of jobs created, jobs that embraced the Green industry. From creating an Electric Vehicle Training Institute, Electric Vehicle Conversion Training Institute to other methods of Electric Vehicle Training, the opportunities were endless. From the creation of the program to the long-term maintenance of the network, the plan would come with job opportunities for anyone willing to learn.

This deal now comes with job-training and job-creating provisions with a price tag of $100 million. In March, Governor Jerry Brown's office, the CPUC and the NRG agreed to the changes which included provisions for the creation of an EV Training Program, an EV Training Institute as well as the creation of jobs for those in California. The deal requires that the NRG spend funds that ensure the contractors hired in-network were local contractors and that minority- and women-owned businesses were well represented in the businesses chosen by the program. The implementation of the Electric Vehicle Training Institute and the Electric Vehicle Conversion Training Institute will create jobs not only for today but also for the long-term maintenance of the infrastructure.

In a time when jobs were scarce and opportunities seemed nowhere to be found, the NRG found a way to create jobs with a new outlook and new opportunities that never existed before. It was the perfect plan for creating jobs for today and the future. With science and technology ever-changing, so will the educational needs of the employees involved in this program. An EV Training Institute with a successful, efficient EV training program it vital for the success of the infrastructure. Ongoing Electric Vehicle Training will be necessary for the ever-growing Electric Vehicle industry.

The NRG is already creating jobs with the package that contains an EvGo Operation in California, 200 or more freedom station locations which include several charging stations, building wiring for 10,000 or more apartment buildings and work places, research into electric car charging and smart grid technologies, job training programs as well as car sharing programs.

The settlement document stated the benefits of the program beautifully when it stated, ""helping to create job opportunities for California's diverse minority communities." "EV Opportunity Program allocated $4 million for projects that enhance appreciation of the social benefits of electric vehicles and create opportunities for residents of under-served communities to benefit from expanded use of electric vehicles in California."
