JM Family Enterprises Unveils Georgia's Newest Rooftop Solar Array

One of the state's largest, the system will produce 285,500 kWh hours of electricity and reduce carbon emissions by 205 metric tons annually

(ALPHARETTA, GA. - April 26, 2011) JM Family Enterprises, Inc. unveiled Georgia's newest commercial solar energy array this morning at a special dedication ceremony at its Alpharetta-based subsidiary DataScan Technologies LLC. DataScan is a global leader in wholesale finance accounting and risk management systems and services. DataScan is also one of the largest floorplan inventory verification and vehicle inspection companies in the automotive industry.

DataScan's solar energy array, the second largest commercial location in Georgia and the largest of any data center in the state, has the capability to capture and convert sunlight to create an estimated 285,500 kWh hours of electricity annually, reducing carbon emissions by 205 metric tons. It would take 377,000 pounds of coal, 477 barrels of oil or the electricity usage of 25 average residential homes to generate the same amount of power through non-solar means. Through completion of this solar array, DataScan is taking an exciting and important step toward reaching the aggressive goal of decreasing its data center's energy consumption by 10 percent in 2011 and ultimately reducing the company's overall environmental impact.

"It has been a long-held philosophy of JM Family Enterprises to align our business goals with meeting the needs of communities where our associates live and work," said Colin Brown, JM Family's president and CEO. "By demonstrating our commitment to renewable energy and making sustainable choices a priority for our operations, we hope other companies will take similar actions and make a positive impact on our environment."

Representatives from JM Family and DataScan were joined by Congressman Tom Price (R-Ga.) and industry leaders from across the region during the special dedication. Price praised JM Family's efforts to produce energy from a clean and renewable source.
"Congratulations to DataScan and JM Family for assuming a leading role in implementing clean energy practices that will yield economic and environmental benefits for years to come," said Congressman Tom Price, M.D. (R-GA). "DataScan's solar array is an important example of what we can do to help achieve greater American energy production and an outstanding illustration of public-private collaboration. The proliferation of innovative energy technologies must be part of an all-of-the-above strategy to make America more competitive and prosperous in the future."

JM Family has incorporated green initiatives across all of its operations and has received several accolades for its leadership in enacting sustainable business practices.
