Xantrex expands solar grid tie inverter line in Europe

Xantrex Technology Inc., a global leader in solar inverters, has expanded its line of solar grid tie inverters for the European residential and commercial market with the launch of the Xantrex GT 3.8 and GT 2.5 Solar Grid Tie Inverters in Germany and the GT 3.8 Solar Grid Tie Inverter in Spain.

VANCOUVER, BC, October 6, 2005 - Xantrex Technology Inc. (TSX:XTX), a global leader in solar inverters, has expanded its line of solar grid tie inverters for the European residential and commercial market with the launch of the Xantrex GT 3.8 and GT 2.5 Solar Grid Tie Inverters in Germany and the GT 3.8 Solar Grid Tie Inverter in Spain.

These new grid tie inverters from Xantrex, which efficiently convert direct current power from solar panels into high-quality alternating current electricity for sale to the electric grid, are based on the 3 kilowatt Xantrex GT 3.0 Solar Grid Tie Inverter platform, which was launched in Spain in February this year and in North America last year.

The North American Xantrex GT 3.0 has become a popular choice for system integrators and installers because of its value proposition, reliability, efficiency, higher power density and ease of installation. This success should bode well for the new European products, which are specifically designed for the European market. The wider product range offered by Xantrex now gives European system integrators and installers the ability to better meet the capacity requirements of a broad spectrum of customers.

"With this new product family, Xantrex expects to strengthen its position in the fast-growing European residential and commercial solar grid tie market," said Mossadiq Umedaly, Xantrex's Chairman. "Our grid tie solar inverters offer value, performance, reliability, and compactness, making them a great solution for European installers and solar system owners."

Xantrex used a disciplined approach to design the inverters, from developing specifications that meet its customers' requirements, to verification testing to ensure long life and reliability. The inverters were tested extensively using Highly Accelerated Life Test (HALT) methods to detect and address potential product design issues. Using these testing methods, the inverters were exposed to extreme thermal and mechanical conditions that went above and beyond conventional testing methods typically used by other inverter manufacturers.

These inverters have European efficiency ratings of 94% for the GT 2.5, and 94.5% for the GT 3.8. This high efficiency, combined with excellent thermal performance, helps customers improve the financial return on their solar investment by maximizing the amount of solar green energy delivered to the utility grid.

All of this technology is incorporated into a sleek, compact design that weighs only 20 kg, light enough to be installed by one person without assistance. This lightweight design makes installation fast and easy, thereby lowering the cost of installing a solar system. The broad DC input range, from 195 to 600 volts, and a wide photovoltaic Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) range makes the Xantrex inverters the perfect match for a wide variety of solar panels from all the leading manufacturers.

These Xantrex GT series solar grid tie inverters are designed to be combined easily to provide higher power multi-kilowatt systems. An additional benefit of such a configuration is that it would include multiple MPPTs, which provide greater installation flexibility for varying roof slopes to maximize energy harvest.

The result is rugged, high-quality products that are built to withstand extreme environmental conditions. The inverters are competitively priced and are backed with a 5-year warranty and an optional 10-year extended warranty. These inverters are IP54 rated and can be used indoors and outdoors, meeting all European requirements including CE, Germany's VDE0126 and Spain's Royal Decree 1663/2000.

Xantrex also has a strong product offering for the European solar grid tie industrial market, with 100-kilowatt and 500-kilowatt inverters. Multiple units can be paralleled for large power installations. These industrial products have just recently been launched and already have an excellent reputation in the European market for high quality, reliability, efficiency and technical field support.

Xantrex has proven solar and wind experience and more than 3,000 MW installed worldwide. With the addition of the new solar grid tie inverters for the European residential and commercial market, Xantrex expects its products will be the choice for an increasing number of renewable energy customers in Europe.
