Tell us about your company.
Since 1993, Morningstar Corporation has been a world-leading supplier of solar charge controllers & inverters, with over 3 million units installed in over 100 countries. Morningstar’s products have been recognized in international solar markets as the most advanced and highest quality products available. We are currently involved in the largest rural electrification project in the world, in Peru where the government is bringing solar electricity to over 175,000 homes plus community centers.
Your company will be exhibiting at SPI 2018, what is it that makes this an important event for your company?
It is both our 25th Anniversary as a company as well as the debut of one of its most important products in its history: the MultiWave High Frequency Inverter-Charger (more information below). So this is a “double milestone for Morningstar: celebrating 25 years as the leader in charge controllers, and marking a new direction into power conversion and a more complete renewable energy system with the new inverter. Morningstar has well over 3 million products in the field and one of the lowest hardware failure rates in the industry, so to say our product and brand are “proven under extreme conditions” is a gross understatement—we set a standard so high for reliability that other brands use Morningstar components inside their own energy system packages. 25 years is much longer than many other companies in our category have been around—we have individual best-selling models, such as our ProStar charge controller, that have been leaders longer than other companies have been in business. So this show and this anniversary are both a reflection on the values upon which we’ve built our reputation, and a look forward to the next products that will enable solar installers to keep building their reputations on ours.
Highlight a 2 or 3 products you will be showcasing at the event?
Three innovations from Morningstar:
MultiWave™ 4kW Inverter 48V Battery input/120 or 230 Vac output
The MultiWave™ will establish a new benchmark for battery-based inverters. Combining the surge and power capabilities of a low frequency inverter with the agility and compactness of a high-frequency design, MultiWave will deliver more power with less weight, and achieve peak efficiency in excess of 95% across a wide load range. The new 4 kW Inverter/Charger is part of a line that will include 120, 120/240 and 230V AC versions and is designed for the global marketplace. Flexible and easy to install, MultiWave has a high-resolution display for programming and data access. Optional DIN rail-mounted “BOS block” I/O expansion devices allow adding-on sophisticated generator control, automated load shedding, and system monitoring alert capabilities. Available late 2018

Essential Series
Renowned Morningstar technology and reliability is now available to consumers for a wide range of applications. Built on Professional Series’ quality, Essentials components have the basic features required for small residential and other projects. Essential Series achieves a lower price point by eliminating select advanced features found in the Professional Series, and is available in selected global markets. The EcoBoost MPPT, EcoPulse, and SHS solar controllers belong to the Essential Series, and international Morningstar distributors can provide more information.
SPI 2018 has many educational sessions & Demo’s, is your company involved in any of them this year?
All of our demos and educational sessions about our new MultiWave Inverter/Charger and our solar controllers and accessories will be conducted by our engineers at Morningstar's Booth 1924 during exhibit hours. People can stop by our booth at any time and we will have an engineer available who can answer their questions.
When you get a chance to walk the exhibit hall floor yourself, what is it you will be most interested to see? Any educational sessions you plan on attending?
We’ll be looking at applications for our products. Areas in which we are a “reference standard” include oil & gas production, small residential, rural electrification, and RV/marine. But we have integrators now using our products in everything from advanced fuel-cell systems to security monitoring at nuclear facilities. So we’re interested in other potential fits for our technology and reliability. Educational sessions pertaining to trends in off-grid solar applications, inverters, batteries and remote monitoring are always of interest to us.
When you book a booth for a tradeshow like this what are your expectations and what does your company hope to accomplish at the event?
We expect to conduct many meetings with our distributor customers and bolster relationships with new and existing installers, system integrators and EPC's. Additionally we look forward to building the strength of the Morningstar brand as the leader in terms of quality and reliability. Lastly, the show provides us a great opportunity to network with other thought leaders in the solar industry.
A tradeshow of this magnitude is extremely busy and stressful for the staff of exhibiting companies. Any fun things or places your team can suggest in Anaheim to help unwind?
Disneyland of course. We are also having a private party at our booth on Wednesday from 4:30pm until 8pm to celebrate our 25 years in business. We are inviting our customers and would like to thank them for all their support over the years, and to let them know how much we value the relationship.
