The higher power density of the NeON R delivers more energy and cost savings in space limited situations. In addition to a higher energy output, the N-type cells use almost no boron, significantly reducing Light Induced Degradation.
LG Solar releases the NeON R Solar Module at SPI 2017
David Chang, Director of U.S. Sales for LG Electronics’ Solar Business | LG Solar
LG Solar was recently at Solar Power International, what were you showcasing in your booth this year?
This year at SPI we showcased a lineup of both residential and commercial modules. We debuted the LG NeON R, up to a 370 Watt residential module alongside our other residential modules including the LG NeON 2 ACe. For the commercial market, we featured the 72-cell LG NeON 2 and LG NeON 2 BiFacial which provide our highest energy output solutions on the market.
You introduced the NeON R at SPI, tell us about the NeON R and what sets the NeON R apart from other solar modules?
The NeON R is a high-end residential module with our highest power output at 370 Watts. The higher power density of the NeON R delivers more energy and cost savings in space limited situations. In addition to a higher energy output, the N-type cells use almost no boron, significantly reducing Light Induced Degradation. The module also has a flexible array design and is easy to install. The NeON R is ideal for the residential market as the electrodes are on the back, giving the panel a sleek black aesthetic.
Why does the NeON R have a 25 year warranty?
LG is committed to providing our customers dependable products and our 25 year warranty reinforces that commitment. The bumper to bumper warranty covers the panel, labor, and delivery so LG is with you every step of the way, giving homeowners peace of mind.
How does the increased energy output compare to competitors?
The NeON R has up to 370 Watts per 60-cell module, compared to most 290W modules. The NeON R increases power output by 28% and the N-type cells use almost no boron, significantly reducing the Light Induced Degradation. Additionally, the NeON R has a newly reinforced frame, providing long term reliability.
How does the NeON R perform in different environments?
The NeON R was designed with different environments in mind. The modules’s improved temperature coefficient enhances its performance on a sunny day, and is rated the highest in wind and snow load rating. Its easy installation makes it simple to configure to any roof to maximize energy for a variety of different homes.
Give us a rundown of some of your other solar modules and what sets them apart.
A few other solar products we’re excited about are the NeON 2 BiFacial and the NeON 2 ACe. For the commercial market, the NeON 2 BiFacial is a double-sided power generation allowing the module to produce more energy with a smaller footprint. It’s ideal for a variety of installation areas including white TPO roofs, snowy areas, carports and more. The clear backing allows the panel to absorb upwards of 10 - 30% more energy, depending on the application. For the residential market, the NeON 2 ACe cuts installation time in half with the integrated AC module. We worked with Enphase Energy to incorporate their IQ6+ microinverter which allows for faster installation, a sleeker aesthetic, and remote monitoring. Both of these products are really focused on the consumer and addressing their needs and concerns when it comes to solar modules.
Tell us a little bit more about your bifacial solar modules, what kind of installations are you really seeing this type of module be used in and what growth do you see here?
The NeON 2 BiFacial modules are being installed in commercial rooftop and carports, in which system size is limited by space or the project developers or owners need to minimize the cost of steel in the carport structure. The NeON 2 BiFacial is ideal for these environments because the clear backing allows for backside production which in turn increases energy output of the module by 10-30%, depending on the application. People think that solar panels can only be used in very sunny environments, but this will help expand the opportunity for people to use solar for their businesses.
Given the recent decision from the US Trade Commission how do you see this affecting LG Solar and its US operations?
At this time, we are waiting on President Trump’s decision and will be sure that LG Solar US operations complies accordingly.
