Urban Green Energy Expands its Lead in Distributed Energy by Announcing New, Innovative Line of Off-Grid Outdoor Lighting Solutions

Options for roads, paths, parking lots, and more combine wind and solar power in stand-alone, reliable systems.

NEW YORK, NY – September 5, 2012 – Urban Green Energy (UGE) today announced the launch of an advanced line of renewable energy lighting solutions capable of operating completely off the grid. The versatile new products build upon UGE's existing line of lighting solutions, allowing them to be used in a wider number of applications at a lower price. In addition to minimizing the carbon impact of outdoor lighting, the stand-alone towers will lower costs by avoiding costly wiring and installation expenses while avoiding future electricity costs for powering the lights.

The cutting-edge systems use either UGE's low-cost HoYi! turbine, solar panels, or a combination of both to achieve the power needed to completely power the LED light. UGE has the ability to assess sites remotely, and provide guidance for what hybrid renewable energy system should be utilized at each location to maximize efficiency and optimize the system. By operating as stand-alone units, the reliability of the streetlights is increased by eliminating reliance on the local grid.

Innovation in both electronics and wind technology has allowed for the costs of UGE's outdoor lighting solutions to be nearly halved. "The simplicity and savings of installing a standalone lighting system for a road, parking lot, or pedestrian pathway cannot be overstated", said Mateo Chaskel, VP of Operations at UGE. "Our new line of renewable lighting solutions will make it feasible for customers in developed and developing regions to use them in a variety of locations". The new line of stand-alone lights will allow customers to save over 35% when compared to conventional lighting.

In addition to the technological advances, the new line of lights will maintain the trademark UGE aesthetic, while allowing for all components to be safely stored in an enclosure within the base of the tower.

The new line is being launched with the installation of over 100 units near Beijing, China, and additional projects are being developed in several countries across the US, Asia, the Caribbean, and Africa.

HPS EnduraCoilTM Cast Resin Medium Voltage Transformer

HPS EnduraCoilTM Cast Resin Medium Voltage Transformer

HPS EnduraCoil is a high-performance cast resin transformer designed for many demanding and diverse applications while minimizing both installation and maintenance costs. Coils are formed with mineral-filled epoxy, reinforced with fiberglass and cast to provide complete void-free resin impregnation throughout the entire insulation system. HPS EnduraCoil complies with the new NRCan 2019 and DOE 2016 efficiency regulations and is approved by both UL and CSA standards. It is also seismic qualified per IBC 2012/ASCE 7-10/CBC 2013. Cast resin transformers are self-extinguishing in the unlikely event of fire, environmentally friendly and offer greater resistance to short circuits. HPS also offers wide range of accessories for transformer protection and monitoring requirements.
