The PV Solar Shutter is a perfect fit because it requires no roof space and no large battery banks, and is very easy to install and uninstall. Each unit can purchase its own shutters, have its own power source, and offset usage one window at a time. Even renters can, like any other window covering, take their shutters with them if when they move.

Solar Shutters

Interview with David Curran | Plug ‘N Save Energy Products

How does the PV Solar Shutter work?

Each louver has photovoltaic (PV) cells embedded in protective coating on the exterior face.   Just like solar arrays, these PVs harness the sun’s energy and create electricity that can be used in any building.

How much power can I produce?

On a sunny day a shutter covering a standard 6’ x 8’ sliding glass door can produce about 350 watts of power per hour.

What does that mean in real terms?

Generally speaking, 350 watts could power a home office – a computer, a laptop, and some lights – all with one set of shutters.

How does the shutter provide electricity for my building?

Power is supplied through a wire coming out of the shutter and can be connected to either a grid tie inverter that plugs directly into the wall or tied directly into an existing inverter/battery bank.

What equipment do I need besides the shutters to store and re-use the energy?

Right now we are offering our customers a grid tie inverter which converts the energy into an AC current that you can plug directly into any outlet. The grid tie inverter is an add on but makes this a very good solution for those who want small systems or live in high rises or rentals with no space for batteries or inverters. The PV Solar Shutter can be direct wired and planned in, just like any other solar module.

How does the PV Solar Shutter work in high rise and mid-rise buildings

The PV Solar Shutter is a perfect fit because it requires no roof space and no large battery banks, and is very easy to install and uninstall.  Each unit can purchase its own shutters, have its own power source, and offset usage one window at a time.  Even renters can, like any other window covering, take their shutters with them if when they move.

What about housing developments?

Again a perfect fit especially in situations where the HOA will not approve solar panels for the roof.

Can you retro fit the shutters I just bought?

In many cases we can.  In all cases though, we will provide a credit for existing shutters and recycle or reuse all materials.

Who should buy the PV Solar Shutter?

The PV Solar Shutter works for all who have windows and want to create their own power.  It also works well for those who need a portable system, have no room for equipment, care about materials used, and want to take steps toward preserving our planet.

How much does an average system cost for a home with a good south exposure?

Average system cost depends on a number of factors, including number of windows covered and their respective sizes. However, the retail price on a 2’x3’ shutter is $400.00.
